Things to know before you book...

It's important to know that the results of your permanent makeup will be based on the health and condition of your skin. Results will vary from person to person, and if you have a pre-existing skin condition, medical condition, or using any medications, you may still be eligible for a procedure, but should adjust your expectations based on your situation. Every person is unique and will react differently. After reading this FAQ, you can book your appointment now. If you are uncertain, please contact me and we can discuss this further.

Pre-Existing Skin Conditions

  • Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Chronic Acne, Rosacea and others not listed

Active skin conditions found in treatment area may disqualify you for treatment. Please notify your artist if you have any of these skin conditions.

  • Large Pores

If your skin has larger pores, specifically in the eyebrow region, the healed results can have a blurred and powdery effect. A better option will be Ombre Powder Brows.

  • Sun Burn

If you recently had excess amounts of sun exposure to your face and gotten a tan or sunburnt, it is best to wait until your skin has resumed it’s normal color and fully healed before booking this procedure.

  • Previous Permanent Makeup

People who have previously had permanent makeup may want to correct or change the appearance of the initial work. Clients are recommended to consider saline or laser removal prior to a procedure if the old design and color is still too prominent and if the previous work was done too deep and left permanent scarring. We will always try our best to achieve the best results as possible but we will be working on a canvas that was previously done. Always disclose that you’ve had previous permanent makeup so we can treat you accordingly. Not all cases will be accepted. Please submit a clear photo of each brow or lip prior to booking your appointment.

  • Scars

When working with pre-existing work, sub-dermal scar tissue can affect your retention and healed results.

  • Sensitive Skin

For most individuals, the process of microblading is no problem. For those with hypersensitivity, your skin may react with increased swelling, bleeding, and less retention. Other options to look into is microshading and ombre.

  • Deep Wrinkles

Microblading is not advised for those with deep wrinkles as the tattooed hair strokes may not lay properly on the skin and the overall look may appear uneven. Ombre is a better option for mature skin.

  • Moles, Skin Tags, Bumps, Piercings, and Raised Skin

May have uneven and poor retention. It is not advised to undergo any permanent makeup procedure over a mole or any piercings.

  • Oily Skin

Individual’s with oily skin may have poor retention and will need more frequent touch ups. Additionally, excessively oily skin can cause tattooed hair strokes to blur together and give off an unwanted solid effect instead of a naturally feathered look. It is recommended for those with oilier skin to consider ombre.

  • Microneedling, Accutane, Retin-A, and Retinol Users

Individual’s who have been taking acne medications listed within the last year have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. Similarly with microneedling procedures, please make sure your last and next appointment is more than 8 weeks before and after. Remember that a touch-up appointment happens after 8 weeks. It is advised to wait a year before proceeding with tattooing your skin. Retinol and Vitamin A users should discontinue the use of each a month prior to their procedure.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

Before you make an appointment, please consult with your medical doctor and artist prior to booking your appointment if you have any of the known medical conditions listed below. A physician’s letter of consent may be needed if deemed necessary by your artist.

  • Pregnant or nursing

  • Tendency of keloid scars

  • Hair transplant in area of service

  • Bleeding disorders: hemophilia

  • Autoimmune disorders: Lupus, frontal fibrosing alopecia

  • Diabetes

  • Heart condition

  • Individual’s on blood thinners

  • IUD: Can promote increased bleeding. Please inform me prior to booking.

Other Considerations

  • Botox- It is recommended to get your permanent makeup procedures done prior to getting botox to make sure your muscles are in a relaxed state. Alternatively, if you regularly use botox, you will need to wait at least 4 weeks after botox before getting any of our provided procedures in order to allow the botox to settle in at its full effect.

  • Filler - It is recommended to get filler first, and allow for results of filler to settle for the recommended time by your doctor before moving forward with lip blushing, as filler can stretch the skin and create patches.

  • Vacationing- all services provided are tattoos and therefore is a mild injury to the skin which takes time to heal. If you are planning to go hot vacation involving sun, sweating, and swimming, make sure you give your skin at least two weeks to heal post procedure.

How long does it last?

This is a tattoo procedure that fades over time, to varying degrees. For all procedures, a touchup or annual refresher is recommended to at least help maintain the shape and refresh the color of the treated area.

Why is the 8-week touch-up appointment necessary?

The initial appointment is to help set the foundation of the brows and a second session, known as the refining session, is necessary to add any adjustments to the shape, color, and saturation. Skin type, oil production, and proper aftercare will determine whether some areas will need to be reinforced 8-10 weeks after your appointment. It is also important to see how your body heals the treated area so we can adjust as needed. During the perfecting session your artist will go over any patch areas that may not have healed properly and will reinforce the shape and overall look for longevity. Remember that it is easier to add pigment than to remove pigment (saline and/or laser)

Does the procedure hurt?

Discomfort varies from person to person. Most clients report mild discomfort. Topical anesthetic is not usually applied during the first pass as it can distort the final shape and affect retention, but topical anesthetic is applied during the second pass once the design is in place. Once applied, most clients are comfortable and usually doze off.

RESULTS VARY BY PERSON

With permanent makeup, there are no guarantees on how your skin will react to treatment and the pigments. Each individual’s results vary and many factors are taken into consideration.

Color retention and overall results are different for each individual. Factors such as sun exposure, lifestyle, skin type, pre-care, aftercare, age, diet, stress levels, facial products used, medications used, previous old tattoos in areas treated, skin tone, etc. determine how the treated area heals.

OILY SKIN - tends to push out the pigments quicker and may needs more frequent touch ups and heal extra powdery, thicken, or blurry. Nano hairstrokes or combo brows are recommended for Oily Skin types.

MATURE SKIN - is very fine, delicate and thin. It tends to heal more powdery and lines can heal on the thicker side. Results are unpredictable. Powder or combo brows are recommended for mature skin.

DARKER SKIN - will have less contrast and may heal powdery or solid looking then lighter skin tones. The darker the skin tone, the less detail you will see.

For all clients and skin types, the final results are not guaranteed to replace makeup. The goal is to achieve a look that leaves you with enough confidence to start your day, but not to replace makeup. You may still need to use a pencil or light powder for special occasions i.e. parties, formal events, etc. Cosmetic tattoos are low maintenance, not no maintenance.

FRESH VS. HEALED

Hairstokes appear crisp and exaggerated at first, and brows will be really dark during the healing process. As brows heal, the lines may slightly expand and are lighter, less fuzzy, and softer looking. As the color settles into the skin, it tends to heal a bit cooler then when first applied.

Ombre Powder and Lip Blush appear extremely dark at first but will lighten up once healed. It will have an affect of light powder or a natural lip tint once healed.

How will my artist determine the design and shape?

Your artist understands that this procedure can be filled with anxiety. As an artist, your best interest is always kept in mind. We will utilize a logical ratio based on your face's features, like length, angle, symmetry, to design a look that you will love. We also understand that this is a tattoo and our artwork on your body.

Remember that it's always easier to add pigment than take away, so the initial appointment will be focused on locking in the design and shape, and future appointments can be focused on adding and layering saturation.

RETENTION

Although most clients retain pigment well, very few will require a third appointment for areas that have failed to retain. Proper selection of treatments is recommended by skin type, age, and other factors that the artist will go over with you, to reduce the risk of poor retention. Clients should expect pigments to fade after 1-2 years, at which point a color boost/annual to bi-annual touch-up is recommended.

COLOR BOOST AND TOUCH UPS

Color Boost appointments are for those who have already received their initial session and initial touchup. Color Boost sessions are not always necessarily done annually. For clients who follow strict post care, color boost sessions can be done 1.5-3.5 years later.

As your cosmetic tattoo ages, the pigment may fade, lose vibrancy and warmth. It is necessary to receive annual color boosts and touchups to bring the strokes, saturation, and color back to life. The more color boosts you get, the longer time you can go without a touch-up.
